Job-costing diagnostic · $1,500 fixed

Which jobs are actually making you money?

I do job costing and pricing analysis for trades businesses — landscapers, plumbers, contractors. I go through your job numbers and show you which work is making money, which isn't, and what to change. Most owners have a rough feel for it. Nobody's ever put real numbers on it.

The deliverables

What you get

The workbook

A custom Excel job-costing model built on your numbers: your true loaded hourly cost, a pricing calculator for quoting new work with margin visible before you commit, a job tracker, and a dashboard by job type and by customer. Yours to keep and use.

The memo

A written analysis memo that translates the findings into specific recommendations — what the numbers say, what to change, and the projected dollar impact of each change.

The one-page summary

A one-page owner summary written for a non-financial reader — the version you can read in five minutes and act on.

The process

How it works

  1. Start with what you have

The diagnostic starts from records you already have — invoices, estimates, time logs, or job reports. No new software, no data-entry project on your end.

  2. I build the picture

I work through what each type of job actually costs versus what it brings in — true loaded hourly cost, margin by job type and by customer, and where pricing hasn't kept pace with costs.

  3. You see everything

In roughly two weeks you have the workbook, the memo, and the one-page summary. Nothing is a black box — the full model is yours, and you can see how every number was reached.

Worked example

A complete diagnostic, built end to end

Rather than describe the work, I built the whole thing on a modelled five-person landscaping business. The business is a model, not a client — and every dollar figure is projected from the model's recommendations, not money already recovered.

The owner draws $80,000 and calls it profit. The business is actually returning −$30,391. Nothing in his software is looking for the difference.

Three pricing changes take the model from −$30,391 to +$110,645 projected — a $141,036 swing. Same five-person crew, mostly the same customers, no operational restructuring.

The whole thing is available to read — the findings, the recommendations, and the one-page summary — so you can see what you'd get before deciding anything.

One deliverable, one price

The price

$1,500 fixed

Quoted before work begins — not hourly, no surprises. One price covers the whole diagnostic: the workbook, the memo, and the one-page summary, in about two weeks.
